From the Founder
Welcome, I'm glad you're here!
I'm Tamarin, I was born in sunny South Africa and travelled extensively throughout the country with my parents. My father instilled an early love of maps and cartography in me by providing the atlas from the seat pocket of the family car whenever we went on trips, and this early fascination with travel provided an appreciation for the art and science of geospatial intelligence and mapmaking that drives my passion today.
I moved to the Southeastern United States in the early 2000's to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), where I refined my technical knowledge of vector data creation, manipulation and management, and developed an appreciation for remote sensing via satellite and orthophotography. I put these skills to use straight out of University as part of the local government mapping team, which exposed me to the broader applications of GIS in law enforcement, the fire service, and emergency management. In 2012, I accepted a full time position as the GIS data manager for the local Fire Department and currently work full time with a great team of community risk reduction visionaries to fulfill our mission of preserving life and property.
Building on previous experience, I received my Master of Business Administration degree in 2017, focusing on Information Technology Management and started Iron Forge Geospatial as a way to pass on that knowledge through consulting services with a special emphasis on public safety and local government.
The company has since expanded to involve my other passions, a deep love of the water and travel instilled by my father, and a channel for the creativity inherited from my talented mother through the uniqueness of handmade jewelry with a geospatial component. Family, adventure, and a desire to put my skills to work in the service of others drives everything I do, and I invite you to explore the site and discover how Iron Forge Geospatial can serve you.
